Spring trip to Canyonlands

Jolie and I spent a week in the Needles section of Canyonlands National Park. This is one of the narrow sections of the Chesler Park trail called the "joint" - nothing to do with pot - just a geologic term for a crack in the rock

The trails had many of these holes in the rock that the trails went through. This is one on the way to the confluence of the Colorado and Green Rivers with Jolie's silhouette.

Claret cup cactus. We saw lots of these in our hikes.

A quick rainstorm on our way to Colorado/Green confluence

Sunset view from our camp in the park

Primrose on a rainy morning. Was laying on the side of a road to get this shot

Lupine

The hike to Peek-a-boo spring was miles of this type of scenery - hiking along the head of several beautiful canyons

Prickly Pear cactus

One of several ladders on the Peek-a-boo spring hike. At the bottom it was so narrow that you couldnt turn around to see the stone steps you had to walk down get out of this narrow crack.

Globemallow on Lost Canyon trail

Druid Arch - 450 feet tall. Name is based on resemblance to Stonehenge. We waited for the sunniest day of the trip and started hiking at 6 am to get here while the sun was still at a good angle to get a shot

East Fork Bitterrroot Cabin

After Christmas Jolie, I and Polgara spent several days at the East Fork bitteroot cabin to ski. On our drive down, this was a view we had of the moon setting over the Big Hole Mountains

We had a beautiful day to ski at Lost Trail at the end of two weeks of snowstorms!!

A bit grainy (cell phone pic) but here we are in front of cabin wearing our new lighted fleece hats - great for midnight trips to the outhouse (thanks Joan and Sandy)

Tetons in Winter

Spent thanksgiving weekend in Driggs with Jolie and Polgara to ski at Jackson Hole ($6 day!!!!) and Targhee. Got one good shot of sunset on the Tetons. I probably have 20 plus shots of the tetons in the blogs over the years, but they are just so photogenic,

Crazies!

In October, Jolie and I went to the Crazy's (no, we didnt go mental, to the mountain range called the Crazy's near Helena). Here we are above sunshine lake after a cold hike up an exposed ridge - beautiful scenery.

We saw this guy on our way back to Crandell Creek Cabin. He sat and watched us for a while - we think he was eyeing Polgara and wondering if she was small enough to carry her off - fortunately he never gave it a shot. This would have been an awesome shot, but I didnt get the focus right

This is the view of Target Rock from the porch of Crandell Creek Cabin - nice cabin with a great porch, but a lot of dead flies in the cabin!!!

Mountain Goat

Jolie saw this gal on a hike up trout crekk near helena. I have hike up there 20 plus times - first mountain goat I have seen

Red Lodge trip

Joan and Sandy came out for a visit - we took a trip to Red Lodge for several days. On the way there we drove through Yellowstone national park (didnt see any critters), and then on the beartooth highway. This is a stop at a water fall and old bridge.

View of beartooth lake along the Beartooth hwy

Top of the beartooth highway at 11,000 feet. It was just a litle windy

Red Lodge is overrun by turkeys (not just tourists), here are a few we saw in town

Colorful rocks in Rock Creek that runs through Red Lodge

The group did a hike up the West Fork Rock Creek - started out threatening rain, but turned into a nice day.

A view up the canyon we hiked

Ma spotted this moose on our way to the hike, but we couldnt get a good picture of him. After me and Sandy did a second hike we saw him with his two girls - he was trying to get fresh with one of them and we saw him chase her around for a bit before he gave up - you can see the frustration in his eyes.

Ma has decided to take up a new hobby in addition to quilting - a local hotel held the first meeting of the Hells Angels quilting club.
